Book Covers
I was supposed to be working on a synopsis this morning, but I hit a bit of a road block. So when I saw a recent Guardian article that tied in with a couple of recent conversations, I thought it worth taking a few minutes out to post something at Suite101.
But now I’ve done that, I’d better get back to work.
I try quite hard not to buy a book by its cover. I use two techniques. First, if it has a subtly lurid cover of the kind you describe, I’ll neither open it nor buy it. Second, If it has an artistically beautiful and SF-nally impressive cover, I’ll look at it and read the printed description. If that seems interesting and for real, then I’ll in most cases buy it. Technique two compelled me to buy Alastair Reynolds’ ‘Revelation Space’ in 2002. I have not looked back since then.
