Congrats, well done!
Congrats!
So, a 70% is an “A” over there? Wow. 70% is academic probation over here. Or is that special for the writing program, given its subjective nature?
Yay on passing!!!!!
Congratulations, Colin. 🙂
Michael,
I suspect that there must be different criteria applied. Yes, it is subjective, but hey are counter-marked by a second tutor, and if there is a notable discrepancy between the two marks, they will be looked at by an outside agency.
To pass over here, the student needs 40% on all subjects, which yields a 3rd class pass — literally not worth the paper it’s printed on.
50% will yield a 2:2 and 60% a 2:1. The former is now not enough for most employers, and even a 2:1 is proving unacceptable to many.
By contrast, 70% on all subjects will get the student a 1st class Honours Degree.
It’s almost impossible to get more than 80% in any event, so I suspect that papers are marked hard — or 95% of all students would be on probation, me included. 🙂
